Using FTM 2019, you may now download a branch of the FamilySearch Family Tree to your computer and generate the new Family Tree Maker tree. It will match all persons in your new FTM tree to the same persons in FamilySearch Family Tree. That is, you will no longer need to look up your family members on FamilySearch every time; instead, the FamilySearch hints to historical records of these people will be displayed in Family Tree Maker. To learn more about matched individuals, visit the article “Matching a Person” on FamilySearch.
Creating a New Tree from FamilySearch in FTM 2019 for Mac
- Check to see that you are logged in to FamilySearch in FTM 2019.
- The Plan workspace can be opened by clicking the Plan button on the main toolbar.

- Click Download a Tree in the New Tree tab of FamilySearch.

- Choose Select Me to make the home person you (the FamilySearch person also known as the one in the account you are logged in to in Family Tree Maker), or store the correct FamilySearch person record ID otherwise, and Person ID.

- In the field Number of ancestor generations, enter the number of generations of your ancestors you want in your new tree, including the home person in that count. On the Number of descendant generations field, enter the number of generations of descendants of the home person you want in your new tree, including the home person in that count.
- Suppose you wish to incorporate the descendants of individual ancestors, too. Be certain the Include box is checked and enter a figure in number in the generations of descendants of ancestors box. The choice in terms of 2 generations of descendants will include the children and the grandchildren of every ancestry, and so forth. Leave the option unselected, and then the ancestors you include will be restricted to only those directly ascending in line to the home person.
- If so, type in a good name (tree file Name) in the New tree name field.
- Your tree file will, by default, be stored in a Family Tree Maker folder in your Documents folder. Click New Tree Location to save the tree file in a different folder, in case you want to.

- Click Continue.
